Welcome to the HSC course! Now is the time to realise that everything you do, counts towards your ATAR. Your first ATAR assessment is just in 8 weeks time. Let's work now and save ourselves the stress at the end.
How does the HSC course work?
In the HSC, you will have two different papers. The first paper will be on the first day of your exam block and the second will be the next day.
Paper ONE: 2 hours + 10 minutes reading time
Paper One is your AOS Paper - your AOS for Year 12 is DISCOVERY!
- Section 1 (15 marks) - Unseen texts with questions on Discovery
- Section 2 (15 marks) - Creative Writing from stimulus on Discovery
- Section 3 (15 marks) - Essay on Go Back to Where You Came From and Related Text
Paper TW0: 2 hours + 5 minutes reading time
Paper Two is your Modules paper.
- Module A (20 marks) - Experience Through Language: Distinctively Visual
- Essay on Henry Lawson's Short Stories with Related Text
- Module B (20 marks) - Close Study of Text
- Essay on Wilfred Owen Poetry (6 poems to study - NO RELATED TEXT)
- Module C (20 marks) - Texts in Society: Exploring Transitions
- Essay on Educating Rita Play with Related Text

Thesis Statements Begin!
From the images below and looking at your rubric;
1. Write down three dot points from the rubric that link to the concept of Discovery in the image
2. Using these dot points, create a sentence which will form a 'thesis statement'.
For example - image of the child finding the Santa suit.
Dot points;
- Childhood discovery
- Sudden and unexpected
- transform perspective
Create a sentence;
A transformation of perspective may develop from a sudden and unexpected childhood discovery.
Repeat this process for SIX images.

3. For Thursday's lesson - you need to bring in a childhood photo from home. Ask someone about the photo - what were you doing? Why? What is the context behind the photo? DISCOVER more about the photo. Jot down the answers and the conversation you have about the photo.
